American All-Stars defeat National All-Stars




2009 California Collegiate League All-Star Game and Workout

July 13, 2009


The 2009 California Collegiate League workout and all-star game was held this year at Major League Baseball’s Urban Youth Academy in Compton, California. The day started with a workout that allowed for selected players from the Academy Barons, SLO Rattlers, SLO Blues, Santa Maria Valley Packers, Santa Barbara Foresters, Southern California Black Sox and Conejo Oaks to showcase their individual talents in front of MLB scouts, University coaches and fans. The prospects were then assembled into two teams that consisted of American All-Stars and National All-Stars. The American All-Stars were composed of players from the Santa Barbara Foresters, SLO Blues and Conejo Oaks. The National All-Stars were players from the SLO Rattlers, Santa Maria Packers, So Cal Black Sox and Academy Barons. Fox Sports was on hand to produce television coverage of this event and is scheduled to be air on July 20 immediately following Fox’s live coverage of Angels baseball.


Pitching and spectacular defense dominated the game for the first 3 innings of play.


PITCHING


Geoff Broussard pitched 1 inning facing 5 batters; giving up 0 runs, 1 walk and recorded 1 strikeout.

Joe Spizzirri pitched to one batter getting him to ground out to 2B

Jarrett Maloy pitched to 3 batters giving up 1 unearned run, 1 walk and 1 hit batter.

Daxton Sanchez pitched 1 inning faced 6 batters, allowing 2 unearned runs and recording 1 strikeout.

Shuhei Fujiya pitched 1 inning, faced 9 batters, 6 hits, 3 earned runs, 1 strike out and 1 wild pitch.


HITTING


Jarred Frierson was 1 for 2 with 1 strikout, 1 walk and 1 run scored.

Ryan Thornton was 1 for 4 with 1 homerun, 1 run scored and 2 RBIs

Dimitri De La Fuente was 0 for 2


DEFENSE


Ryan Thornton and Dimitri De La Fuente had exceptional defensive days. Dimitri played 3B and showed off his amazing glove and cannon of an arm. Ryan played CF for the entire game and made 2 highlight reel, worthy, diving catches.
